The MetaSprint Series is more than just a set of races — it’s a living legacy of Singapore’s triathlon community, almost two decades in the making. Launched in 2008, the Series has introduced thousands of athletes to the sport and has featured Singapore’s best triathletes in a friendly, but fierce competition.
Each race culminates in exciting battles for age category podiums, but also just bragging rights between friends and club mates. The ultimate prize, though, is becoming Series Champion.
We took a deep dive in our rich racing history and dug up a few interesting facts about our Series Champions.
1) …the MetaSprint Series was created 15 years before T100 and Ironman started their Series😉
In 2008, the first athletes to be crowned Sprint Series Champions were Sebastien Calle and Kirstey Housley. The runner-up’s that year are now Singapore triathlon stalwarts. Clement Chow won SEA Games bronze 7 years later and Choo Ling Er is still Singapore’s fastest Ironman distance athlete. They have never won the MetaSprint Series title though…
2) …Singapore national athletes have won 3 out of the last 4 men’s MetaSprint Series titles
National athletes Bryce Chong, Luke Chua and Yi Jun Tey took the overall win from 2022 to 2024. In 2025 they took part in the SEA Games qualifiers at the MetaSprint Series and could therefore not vie for the Series title. We’ll never know how they would have measured up to the imposing male champion of 2025, Finn Bannister.
What about a match-up in 2026?

3) …only one man and one woman have successfully defended their MetaSprint Series title
Emma Middleditch is the only female to have achieved a repeat win in 2019. At both her wins April Rice and Sam McInness completed the Series podium.
On the men’s side it was Colin O’shea who became a consecutive champion in 2018. He did so with the closest of margins. He beat his direct rival, Tim Cosulich, by a mere 0.21 points.
Only once has there been a closer race. In 2011 Janine Denning and Trudy Fawcett were tied in points at the end of the Series. Janine was awarded the Series crown thanks to her win in the final race, the Triathlon.
The points system was then revised for 2012. Having two athletes tied again would be a freak incident.

4) …that 2025 Series Champ, Vicki Hill, is the oldest MetaSprint Series Champion in its history
Vicki also took the Series Championship for the Women 50-54 category. Her trophy cabinet is very well stocked, including an ITU Long Distance World Champion title, but the MetaSprint Series title was still missing.
It also shows once again that age is nothing but a number. Vicki is now coaching youth and passing on her knowledge and passion to the Series Champions of the future.
