The racing was fast and furious at the MetaSprint Series Duathlon on Sunday 15 March, with the elite categories generating a lot of interest. The introduction of the new XL category at the Duathlon this year presented an additional challenge for many long-standing members of the Metasprint community, and an extra opportunity to shine for the most competitive athletes.
Over 1,300 athletes participated in this year Duathlon event, with competitors of all ages taking part in the various race distances receiving enthusiastic support from friends, family, clubs throughout the morning. The series provides a structured progression for athletes and support their development . Each of the Metasprint Series races caters to different skill sets and endurance levels, allowing everyone to gradually build their confidence, improve their physical capabilities, and gain valuable race experience in a supportive environment, culminating in the triathlon on Sunday 29 March.
The racing lived up to the billing. In the XL Duathlon, the men’s race was won by Philipp Armbruster in 1:20:17, ahead of Aaron Lee in 1:22:51 and Vladimir Dzurilla in 1:25:50. Beyond the podium, the depth of the field was notable: fourth through eighth place were separated by less than a minute and a half, indicating that the new longer format did not merely broaden participation, but also produced a tightly contested front group. Armbruster laid the foundation for his win on the bike. With an average speed of over 40km/hr (his second lap was completed at 43.6km/hr!) he was significantly faster than his nearest competitors.

In the women’s XL race, Regine Goh delivered one of the standout performances of the day, winning in 1:40:33 ahead of Socheata Ung in 1:41:12 and Crystal Chng in 1:42:40. The closeness of the women’s field was equally striking, with the top five all finishing within just over two minutes of each other. Having led out on the first run, Regine Goh was overtaken by Socheata Ung on the final lap of the bike but regained top spot convincingly on the second run.

The Sprint Duathlon, also showcased some strong performances. Duathlon stalwart Wai Kit Lam led from start to finish to secure the men’s title with a time of 50:30, followed by Lin Hung Chi at 52:42 and Louis Thiebault at 53:28. In the women’s Sprint race, Rachel Hew secured victory in 55:22, ahead of Lim Wan Ting in 58:03 and Bernice Tan in 1:02:33. Hew had Lim for company on the first run and blasted to victory on the bike with a split that was 2 minutes faster than the competition.

The stars of the future featured in the Youth race. Wong Jun You and Nur Isabella Schiering – watch those names! – dominated the youth races, and also a shout out to the winners of the 12-13 year old category: Chlovette Yaw and Benjamin Ang. The ‘pro’ field extended into the Kids race with some remarkably aero equipment featured next to pink bikes with flower baskets. The boys races were particularly close with Lucas Chen and Rufus Harvard-Wallls pipping Jacob Barter and Aaron Milner to the line by mere seconds. Margot Stoneham-Buck and Lennox Eng won the girls 10-11 and 8-9 year old categories.

The morning session ended on a high note with the Fun Kids Super-Scoot, filling the event with energy and excitement. Beaming with joy, children aged 4–8 raced at full speed, cheered on by their proud parents close behind. Each young participant received a medal—marking the end of their race and possibly the beginning of a lifelong passion for triathlon.
