MetaSprint Series 2024 Aquathlon Race Report

After weeks of rain and gloomy skies, today brought forth the radiant sun, blessing our athletes with beautiful weather. The festive vibes returned, and Palawan Beach buzzed with the support of friends and family as athletes embarked on their 2024 racing season.

A warm welcome was extended to over 1,100 participants, including 324 first-timers, initiating their multisport journey. Gratitude goes out to our returning athletes, clubs and schools for their continuous support.

In the Aquathlon, the Elite women started first, followed by the Elite Men with a 4-minute gap. Despite the head start, none of the female elite athletes managed to cross the finish line first. Yi Jun Tey from Tribal Triathlon Singapore made an impressive comeback in the last 500m and secured the title of Aquathlon Champion of Champions.

Notably, only one of the top three overall female athletes started in the Elite Wave from previous qualification due to the rolling start. Wan Ting Lim from Tribal Triathlon Singapore claimed the women’s overall title with the fastest female swim split and third-fastest run split. Emily Sambrook Smith, with the 7th female rank in both swim and run splits, secured the 2nd step of the female overall podium, while Nea Martin finished 3rd overall female.

In the male category, the top three males raced in the Elite Wave, starting at the same time. Yi Jun Tey and Lachlan El-Ansary finished the swim together, but Tey dominated the run, finishing with an incredible 16 minutes and 9 seconds for the 4.85km run, winning over El-Ansary by 1 minute and 35 seconds. Nicholas Rachmadi secured the third spot on the podium, 35 seconds later.

In a unique father-son competition, Lachlan and Haythem El-Ansary, both racing in the Elite Wave, showcased a spirited battle. Despite Lachlan’s 2-minute and 20-second lead in the swim, Haythem managed to outrun his son by 7 seconds, proving age is just a number.
