Rules & Regulations – ORIGIN


  • You must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 to race, or show a negative ART test taken within 24 hours of race start time.
  • Participants must follow all public health and safety instructions in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic, communicated pre-event. 
  • All participants must follow the following COVID-19 general guidelines:
    • An athlete who feels unwell (i.e. fever, cough) should stay at home and not participate in the race.
    • If someone in an athlete’s household has tested positive for the virus, the athlete should stay at home for a period of 14 days.
    • Athletes should maintain good personal hygiene by regularly washing hands using soap and water or alcohol-based (at least 65–70%) hand sanitiser for 20 seconds.
    • Athletes over 65 years old, and any person with compromised health conditions should take greater preventive measures.
  • Participants must book a time slot to start their race using MetaSport’s chosen portal.
  • Participants must arrive at the venue at the stipulated time advised by MetaSport, or they will not be allowed to check-in at the race venue.
  • Participants must comply with any public health and/or safety directions from MetaSport staff, representatives, contractors, police, health authorities or other government authorities.
  • Participants must comply with health safety screening and contact tracing activities by methods selected by MetaSport. 
  • Participants must scan in and out using the Trace Together app or Trace Together token in relation to the potential spread of COVID-19.
  • Participants must adhere to a 2-metre safe distance from others at the start and finish points, and during the race.
  • Participants must wear a face mask at all times prior to the start and after the finish.
  • Athletes ignoring safe distancing measures on the course or at the venue will be disqualified.


  • On-the-spot entries will not be accepted.
  • MetaSport will not be responsible for any disputes arising from incomplete and/or incorrect entry details given by the participants.
  • Duathlon and Aquathlon Relay Teams consist of 2 members, each doing one discipline.
  • Triathlon Relay Teams may be made up of 2 or 3 members.
  • Age category is determined by the participant’s age on 31 December 2021.
  • Participants must be 16 years old on 31 December 2021 to compete in the Sprint Distance (individual and relay).
  • Participants must be 16 years old on 31 December 2021 to compete in the Discovery Distance.
  • Participants must be 12 to 15 years old on 31 December 2021 to compete in the Youth distance.
  • Participants must be 8 to 11 years old on 31 December 2021 to compete in the Kids distance.
  • Participants must be 4-8 years old on 31 December 2021 to compete in the Kids Beach Dash, Super Scoot and Scootathlon.
  • Changes to team relay members are permitted until registration closing date. An admin fee of S$20 will apply per change of person.
  • Upgrade or downgrade of a race entry is permitted until registration closing date. An admin fee of S$20 will apply per change.
  • All changes must be made two weeks before race day.
  • Individual race entries are non-transferable. Any person doing so will be held responsible in case of an accident arising from or provoked by the other person during the race. MetaSport reserves the right to exclude both parties from future events.
  • Once the registration form has been processed, there will be no fee refund for the participants who, for whatever reason, eventually do not take part.
  • Verbal abuse of our staff via email, telephone or in person will not be tolerated. MetaSport reserves the right to cancel an athlete’s entry at any time if their actions are deemed in breach of this rule.


  • MetaSport reserves the right to limit and refuse entries.
  • MetaSport reserves the right to remove any participant deemed physically incapable of continuing the race.
  • MetaSport reserves the right to amend the race rules without prior notification.
  • MetaSport reserves the right to amend the race course and venue without prior notice to participants.
  • On-site reporting will start one hour before the commencement of the race.
  • Participants are required to place their bicycles and gear at their designated location in the transition area. Participants in the relay categories are responsible for passing their timing chip to their teammates at the designated area after their respective legs.
  • Prior to race day, in the event of inclement weather, force majeure or other hazardous conditions, MetaSport reserves the right to reschedule or cancel the race without any refund of registration fees.
  • The Race Director and MetaSport have overall authority over the race results and interpretation of the race rules.
  • On race day, in the event of inclement weather, force majeure or other hazardous conditions, MetaSport reserves the right to delay the commencement of the race, shorten the race or modify the course.
    • Should the inclement weather or other hazardous conditions persist after the delay, MetaSport reserve the right to cancel the race.
    • The swim, bike and run disciplines may have time limitations. Participants that do not make the time limit will be removed from the course.
    • Participants shall be aware that while all possible care will be taken by the event organizer to safeguard the bag deposit items, MetaSport shall not be held liable in the unlikely event of missing or damaged items. Participants are advised to avoid depositing valuable or fragile items while using the bag drop service.
    • Participants that do not return their timing device within 7 days after the event date will be charged S$40 or S$15 if only the strap is missing. 
    • Parents are not permitted into the transition area to assist their child during any race, nor are they permitted to swim, cycle or run alongside their child while the race is in progress.


  • Swimsuits must be worn.
  • All swimmers must wear the swim caps provided by MetaSport.
  • Swim goggles may be worn.
  • A swim safety buoy may be worn for increased visibility so long as the athlete does not interfere with the path of fellow swimmers.
  • Fins, paddles, pool buoys, snorkels or any other swimming aids are not allowed.
  • Wetsuits are not allowed.
  • Support crews are not allowed. Any assistance, other than medical aid received during the swim will result in immediate disqualification.
  • No persons other than the participants and officials are permitted in the swimming area.
  • Swimmers in difficulty shall signal by raising an arm to the escorting boats/canoes for assistance.
  • Once assistance is rendered, the competitor must retire from the competition.


  • Cyclists must ensure that their race bib numbers are clearly visible on the back of their apparel at all times.
  • No bare torso is allowed at any time
  • A participant may run or walk with his bicycle.
  • Cyclists are to keep to the left side of the road and be reminded to observe traffic rules at all times.
  • All participants will be required to perform their own repairs if their bicycles should break down.
  • Support vehicles and crews are not permitted.
  • All cyclists must wear helmets with straps secured from the time they remove their bicycle from the rack.
  • The helmet must stay secured on the cyclist’s head until he/she has placed his/her bicycle at the allocated spot on the bicycle rack.
  • It is the participants’ responsibility to ensure that their bicycle is in good working condition, especially the bicycle’s brakes .
  • Wearing headphones is not allowed at any time.
  • Drafting is not allowed. If caught, cyclists will receive a Stop-and-Go penalty.
  • You are considered drafting when you are within 5 metres of another participant’s rear wheel or riding next to someone within 2 metres. You are allowed 15 seconds in someone’s draft zone to overtake. Once overtaken, a participant must drop immediately back out of the draft zone
  • Riding side-by-side is called “blocking” and is an offence with corresponding penalty.
  • Support vehicles and crews are not permitted.
  • Types of bikes allowed: road bikes, tri bikes, city bikes, hybrid bikes, mountain bikes, foldable bikes
  • Types of bikes not allowed: tandems (unless para-athlete), reclining bikes, fixed gear bikes, unicycles
  • MetaSprint Series Triathlon: Only bicycles that have a width measuring not more than 700mm and weigh not more than 20kg are allowed for the race.


  • Runners must wear their race numbers clearly visible at the front of their apparel at all times.
  • Support vehicles or pacers are not allowed.
  • Runners must run on the designated path for the entire route.
  • No bare torso is allowed at any time.
  • Bare foot running is not allowed, shoes must be worn at all times during the run leg.
  • Wearing of headphones is not allowed at any time.
